Can you use Wise in Pakistan? What works in 2026

Short answer: you can't open a Wise account if you live in Pakistan. But your clients can still use Wise to pay you, and it's often the cheapest way for money to arrive.

What doesn't work

  • Opening a Wise account as a Pakistan resident
  • Holding a USD, GBP or EUR balance with Wise
  • Getting Wise account details (a US routing number or UK sort code) to give clients
  • Sending money out of Pakistan in PKR through Wise

What does work

A client abroad with their own Wise account can send money to your Pakistani bank account (IBAN). It arrives in rupees. The client pays Wise's fee (around 0.6% to 1.3% depending on how they fund it), and Wise converts at close to the mid-market rate, so you usually receive more than through Payoneer.

  • Transfers go to individual accounts; Wise does not support business payments into PKR.
  • There is a per-transfer limit (reported as Rs 35 million).
  • The money lands as an inward remittance in your bank, so ask for a PRC showing it's payment for IT services (purpose code 9186), not a family remittance.
Make sure the client marks it as a payment for services. The bank needs to treat it as export proceeds so the right tax (0.25% with PSEB, 1% without) is deducted and you get a PRC.

What about PayPal?

PayPal is still not available to residents of Pakistan as of late 2026.
